The number of new buildings in the US in December was less than expected

In the United States, the number of houses, the construction of which was started in December, was 1 million 78 thousand, which is 11.2% less than in November, the country's Department of Commerce reported. The December figure was the lowest since September 2016. According to experts, its value was expected at the level of 1 million 250 thousand homes. At the same time, the increase in the number of permits issued for construction turned out to be a surprise for economists. This figure rose by 0.3%, with a 2.8% decline expected by economists. The number of single-family homes, the construction of which was started in the last month of last year, was 6.7% less than in November. The volume of started construction of apartment buildings has decreased by 20.4%.
